| Why is it ok for 13 and 14 year olds to go to a nude beach? Why is it ok for 13 and 14 year olds to go to a nude beach? I went to a clothing optional beach last weekend in Miami, Florida and I was surprised at how many minors were on the beach. Most of them seemed to be in groups with their friends. How does the law allow a 12 or 13 year old girl to be around grown naked men like that but in any other scenario it would be considered inappropriate and illegal. I am 31 years old and I was lying nude near the shore and when it turned to my right, I saw 5 teenage girls lying nearby none of them looked over 14. I felt weird because there I was totally naked on my back with my one incher there and these girls were looking over. I then took my towel, put on my flops and left to another part of the beach. Low and behold there was like 5 teens over there also, 3 boys and two girls. I felt like the beach was full of middle age or high school age guys. Why isnt this illegal? None of those girls were nude. In fact they all had on shorts or skirts. This leads me into thinking they are there to gawk. Isnt this wrong? |
| The only thing about what you saw that could ever be illegal is if an adult was touching or harassing them in any way. I actually approve of the trend for the treatment and display of the human body in a more casual and acceptable way. Now this is not to say that there isn’t a time and place for nudity. I would not consider it to be acceptable for you or them to be wandering around the public streets nude, unless it was a clothing optional community. You expect to find nude people on a nude beach, so you shouldn’t be surprised when you do. Now I can sympathize with you’re your embarrassment, after all you were brought up in an age where nudity was not acceptable in any shape or form. You have been engrained with the idea that every part of you that is “normally” covered is an embarrassment when it is not. You have also been taught from a very early age, that nudity is not acceptable until you are “Grown up”. The thing to understand here is that you were only one person on a whole beach full of people similarly equipped. And I’m sure they were not there to look at you. You did do the right thing, you felt uncomfortable, and instead of making them go away with threats of legal action, you simply went some place else. That practice should be the way any situation is handled where we feel uncomfortable or don’t approve. If you hear something on the radio you don’t like, listen to a different station. Don’t write complaint letters to the owners or the FCC. If you don’t like what’s on a channel on TV, Change the channel, don’t try and get it taken off the air. If a go-go bar opens up in your neighborhood, then don’t go there if you don’t like it. If you don’t like people smoking in a restaurant, then go to a different restaurant. (I’m a NON-Smoker by the way). Similarly, if you don’t want your guyren hearing or seeing these things, then it’s up to you to control them. It shouldn’t be that they are allowed to “Run Around” unattended while the rest of us have our right to participate taken away. The point I’m trying to make is that you can’t impress your values, however good and right they may be, on the rest of society. The only thing those young girls and guys are guilty of is making you feel embarrassed. Also they may have felt a little self-conscious about their bodies, so they put on some clothing to feel better. A practice that in and of itself is acceptable. Remember where your were, it was a Clothing Optional beach, so right there in the name, you have the option to be nude, semi-nude or not nude at all. So why should they be made to change their ways simply to accommodate your feelings. After all Body Acceptance is the whole idea behind the naturist philosophy. You can’t have it both ways. |

| 20's and up for the most part. You will find more younger people at a nude beach than at a nudist resort, because the beaches are free. Proximity of a college will often have a lot to do with the age at a given beach. What to do? Depends on the beach. The one we go to usually get a frisbee football game going, or there's exploring tide pools, relaxing with a book, chatting with others. |

| If you are under age you should go with someone over 18. Generally speaking, clothing optional beaches are almost like regular textile beaches. The exceptions are of course, naked people. Also, they are friendlier, safer, and cleaner. Once feel your body react with the air, sun and water, you may never want to wear clothes again. NiF |

| I don't know about here in the USA, but in France & many other European nations, it is often the case that entire families participate in "naturalisme." If you think about it, a 4 year old could probably care less one way or another about whether he or else wears clothes at the beach; it is only in societies where we teach that nudity is necessarily equated to sexuality and hence is "something dirty" that a 4 year old, or a 10 year old, or even a 14 year old, might be upset about seeing a stranger naked. That said, there are certainly some very strong sexual harassment laws in this country that you think would make it impossible for teenagers and adults to legally hang out at the same nude beach unless the parents of the teenagers signed some waiver and accepted responsibility for the whole thing. If I were an adult male, I would certainly be a bit nervous about teenage girls seeing me naked, and I might question the propriety or at least the legality of such an arrangement. After all, all it takes is for one of those girls to claim that you did something inappropriate for you to get into some major trouble. So maybe those teenagers just have irresponsible parents, or maybe they're European. |
| Any Bad experiences at a Nude Beach? I'm posting this again ..did not get much responce hopefully more today :) I'm a single mom 4 with one teen daughter, now 17. We are very close, her dad is not in the picture at all. I'm dating a wonderfull guy almost 10years younger for the last two years all is very good. Last summer we went on vacation on a lake in British Columbia. One of the beaches (accessed by boat only) is a nude beach/camp ground. I didnt know we're going to a nude beach last year, but needless to say we were all sunbathing and swimming in our birthday suits, me my daughter and BF. It bothered me a in the beginning, her being nude around my BF, but not at all by the end of the trip. We just got back from another week long vacation at the same place with AWSOME weather! We all went again and my daughter brought her girl friend (With her mothers permission). We opted to stay right on the campsite and we all had a really good time. It was wild, exciting and definatly good for the tanlines! I really enjoy it and we're planning to back in three weeks I just want to know if anyone has had BAD family/relationship expereinces from going to a nude beach? Thanks |
| I'm fairly new to nudism myself. Last year, friends of mine invited me to come to the campground they go to. I had an excellent experience but chose to not include my guyren. (I'm divorced, 3 guys.) I went a few more times with my friends to the campground, a lake, and some house parties. The only place I felt I wouldn't bring my guys was to the lake. The beach at the lake was a well-established nude area but there were a lot of non-nudists walking around aimlessly and people in boats with binoculars. I've brought the guys with me to the campground and to some parties this summer, but we opted out of going to the beach when we were invited. |

| Your love life and how you explain it to your daughter is your business, and really is unnecessary to the question. If your daughter enjoys nudism, good for her. Many girls her age are uncomfortable being nude around their parents and parents' friends unless they grew up as nudists. I'm 21 and probably would still feel uncomfortable around my dad if I we were at a nudist beach. I'm generally an at-home nudist. My sister and niece visit often in the summer and we rarely dress. My brother-in-law is also a nudist and he comes when he can. Our nudism is non-sexual. It is about relaxing and being free. This has allowed all of us to become fairly close and has made for a stronger family bond. I wasn't a big fan of my brother-in-law when my sister and he first started dating, but it turned out he's a pretty cool guy. My niece is only six but she adores me and I love her like she was my own daughter. I usually watch her for two weeks every summer when my sister's work is very busy and I hate when she has to leave. I have one more summer where I'll be able to do this for certain and after that I may have to work all summer as well, that is gonna suck! |
